Tallahassee, Florida - The Florida Department of Health in Gadsden County (FDOH-Gadsden) will launch a free COVID-19 community testing site Saturday, May 9, 2020 at Capital Regional Medical Center’s Gadsden ER Campus (23186 Blue Star Highway ~ Quincy). The drive-through-only testing site will be open to the public, and will serve both symptomatic and asymptomatic residents. The site does not require a physician referral to be tested, but an appointment is necessary.

Capital Regional’s commitment to Gadsden County started more than ten years ago - operating a free-standing emergency department, providing 24/7 access to life saving care. This past year, Capital Regional has worked hand-in-hand with the Gadsden County Board of County Commissioners and Gadsden Hospital Inc. Board to extend emergency services in Gadsden County for the benefit of residents for another 15 years.

Alan Keesee, CEO of Capital Regional Medical Center says, “Our commitment now extends outside our four walls in this partnership with the Gadsden County Health Department on the community testing site. Access to testing for a broader range of residents is essential to promote health. Under the leadership and direction of the Gadsden County Health Department, the Capital Regional Medical Center team collaborated with health experts in the county to help them bring this site to life. Our team supported education on appropriate PPE donning and doffing, coordinating logistics of patient flow and ensuring the county leaders had access to testing supplies through the state emergency operations command. This community-wide, collaborative effort truly reflects all of our organizations working together for a common goal. To improve more lives, in more ways, right here in Gadsden.”

“After several weeks of collaborating, researching possible sites and identifying the needed supplies, I am very pleased to see this project coming to fruition. We have made a concerted effort to educate and protect our residents, now we're able to do even more by offering community testing,” said Dr. Adrian Cooksey, FDOH-Gadsden Health Officer.

The site will operate Mondays and Wednesday’s (1:00pm - 4:00pm) and Saturday’s (9:00am - 1:00pm). The Department’s goal is to provide up to 50 tests per day and encourage residents to schedule an appointment before visiting. Following Saturday’s opening, residents may call (850) 329-0685, Monday - Friday, from 9:00am - 12:00pm. to schedule appointments.

“We are committed to the health and safety of Gadsden County. We are proud to support the Gadsden County Board of County Commissioners and the Gadsden County Department of Health in their commitment to provide access to testing. I applaud the leadership of Commissioner Viegbesie and Dr. Cooksey for bringing this service to the citizens of Gadsden County,” says Keesee.
