Ronald McDonald House and Capital Regional Medical Center Announce Opening of the Ronald McDonald Family Room™
May 14, 2012
Tallahassee, FL - Ronald McDonald House Charities of Tallahassee, Inc. and Capital Regional Medical Center are pleased to announce the grand opening of the Ronald McDonald Family Room™ at Capital Regional Medical Center and the first of its kind at an HCA facility.
Steps away from the pediatric inpatient unit, the Ronald McDonald Family Room ™ offers a place for parents and families to rest and regroup at the hospital and still be just moments away from their sick child. “When families walk into a Ronald McDonald Family Room,™ we want them to forget they’re in a hospital – yet still know they are right there with their loved one,” says Kathy Anderson, President/Executive Director of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Tallahassee, Inc.
Research shows that a family presence in the hospital helps children heal faster and cope better. Staying close-by allows parents to better communicate with their child’s medical team and improves adherence to complicated treatment plans.
“Capital Regional is honored to be home to this very important room that aids in the healing and caring environment that our littlest patients and their families deserve, says Brian T. Cook, President and CEO of Capital Regional Medical Center. We have worked diligently at expanding our services for pediatric patients through the opening of a Pediatric ER and an in-patient unit to accommodate the need in the community.”
Ronald McDonald House Charities of Tallahassee, Inc. funds the Ronald McDonald Family Room ™ within Capital Regional Medical Center. Ronald McDonald House Charities of Tallahassee, Inc. also operates its cornerstone program the Ronald McDonald House on 7th Avenue, awards grants to non-profits serving children and scholarships to high school seniors.
Expanding services with the opening of the Ronald McDonald Family Room™ at Capital Regional Medical Center enables the charity to serve local families with hospitalized children that do not need to stay at the Ronald McDonald House since they can go home at night.
Services may vary from one Ronald McDonald Family Room ™ to the next, but families will often find:
- A kitchen area
- Internet access
- A seating area with a television
- A quiet room
- Playroom filled with toys, video games, and activities
*A press conference and ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for May 16 @ 10 a.m. in the first floor classroom at Capital Regional Medical Center.
